Appointment Type: Permanent-Exempt (PEX), Category 18. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer and not exceed 36 months.

General Plumber Apprenticeship Program: 
Apprentices will work under the direct supervision of a qualified journey-level Plumber during the apprenticeship, as required by the trade. Apprentices will learn the operation, repair and maintenance of water mains, pipes, meters, fire hydrants, gates and valves, and the work typical of the 7347-Plumber.

Starting pay for this Program is $109,668 per year along with City medical, dental, retirement and other benefits.  Apprentices receive pay increases every 6 months as long as they make satisfactory progress in their training and educational classes.  Failure to meet satisfactory progress in the Program will result in dismissal from the Program.
