Position Summary:

This position is designed to provide supervisory leadership to staff level employees, coordinating such activities with the department’s Unit Leader/Operation Leader.  The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgement and discretion in performing the duties listed below. Staff Clinical Specialist duties include planning, evaluating and implementing treatment programs for patients.  While maintaining a patient load, assumes additional responsibility of new program development, staff training and orientation, and consultation in area of expertise for fellow staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in performance appraisal of staff.
  • Participates in hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Unit Leader.
  • Prepares documentation for possible disciplinary actions and makes recommendations for such action to the Unit Leader.
  • Provides recommendations to Unit Leader for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees.
  • Makes work assignments and directs work activities. Coordination of scheduling taking into account patient needs, workload ratios, skills/competency and staff relief for meetings.
  • Provides input regarding core competencies for all team members to Unit Leader/Operations Leader.
  • Provides input regarding Policies and Procedures.
  • Provides input into educational/orientation needs of team members.
  • Serves as clinical or technical resource as needed including assuming patient care responsibilities.
  • Checks emergency crash carts or ascertains that the cart has been checked (if applicable).
  • Responds to customer service needs.
  • Assists assurance of work group compliance with the Joint Commission, CARF, OSHA, Infection Control, Safety, other regulatory/accrediting agencies, and any applicable state laws.
  • Facilitates and implements program development.
  • Demonstrates competency in critical skills, including demonstration of competency in addressing the age-specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Able to temporarily assume responsibilities of the UL/OL as needed.
  • All job responsibilities of staff position.
  • Advance clinical practice - evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • Develops and maintains orientation checklists and competency criteria.
  • Serves as resource person for staff and senior staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Gives 20 hours education/mentorship time per year. This includes:
  • Peer counseling
  • Mentorship
  • Community lectures/volunteer
  • Orientation of new staff in area of specialty
  • Inservices
  • Resource notebook in area of specialty
  • Takes at least one student per year.
  • Demonstrates leadership in development and implementation of new and current program policies and procedures.
