SSI Systems Fall 2024 Internship – Kubernetes and Systems Operations
Primary responsibilities include assisting with Kubernetes, AWX and Ansible automation and deployment systems across the SSI Systems group.
Responsibilities
- Assist Kubernetes administrators with deployments across campus.
- Deploy nodes using OKD in the Duke Datacenters
- Help configure and improve K3S services
- Explore and document Azure based Kubernetes environments
- Assist with configuration and deployment of RKE software to help manage Kubernetes clusters
- Assist Linux Systems Team with automation efforts
- Help development Ansible/AWX playbooks for operational tasks
- Develop documentation around Ansible and AWX usage
- Other automation efforts as needed
- Assist with onboarding of projects to the Kubernetes environments
- Work with individuals and teams across OIT to help migrate items to a Kubernetes platform
- Document best practices, as well as pitfalls for future migrations
Required Outcomes
- Improvements to configuration and documentation of the AWX/Ansible environment
- Improvement of existing documentation for deploying K3S clusters
- Write up of different Kubernetes offerings (OKD, K3S, AKS) and what advantages they bring to the group
Required Skills
- Basic proficiency with Linux Container technology (Docker, podman, etc).
- Basic proficiency with the Git distributed version control system
- Basic proficiency with a programing/scripting environment (Go, Python, Shell)
- Basic proficiency deploying applications to a Kubernetes environment
