Position Overview

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in managing day-to-day accounting functions and ensuring the financial accuracy and transparency of the organization. Reporting to the CFO, this role will oversee general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, reporting, and grant-related financial tracking. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to the values of equity and service.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage the general ledger with timely and accurate journal entries
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial accounts
• Monitor and track grant expenditures to ensure compliance with funder guidelines
• Assist with budget preparation, financial forecasting, and variance analysis
• Support accounts payable and receivable processes
• Prepare and organize documentation for audits, reviews, and tax filings
• Collaborate with program teams to track and manage project budgets and expenses
• Ensure adherence to internal financial controls, GAAP, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2–4 years of accounting experience (nonprofit or grant-funded environment preferred)
• Solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial standards
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and MS Excel (formulas, pivot tables)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally

Preferred

• Experience with grant compliance, tracking, and reporting
• Familiarity with nonprofit audit preparation and financial reporting standards
• CPA certification or progress toward certification
