Battery Cell Testing and Quality Engineer (Shanghai, China)

The Role:

• Work with external suppliers to qualify LFP/LMFP cell candidates and ensure products meet expected performance targets
• Identify, scope, and propose partnerships with China-based test labs or teardown intelligence firms. Own partnerships and serve as key point of contact for all communications.
• Work independently with suppliers and external testing labs to conduct cell testing and trouble shoot
• Work with suppliers to inspect and improve their process control and quality control
• Visit suppliers frequently to communicate and track testing progresses and quality improvements

Qualifications:

• Good understanding and intuition of Li-ion battery electrochemistry
• Familiar with lithium-ion battery testing methods
• Experience in LFP or LMFP cell chemistry and design
• Knowledge of cell manufacturing process and quality control
• Able to design test plans to characterize battery performance and safety
• A critical and independent thinker
• Extreme attention to detail. Able to identify oversights or assumptions in cell testing or development processes
• Able to discover insights based on experimental data
• Strong documentation and communication skills in English.

Preferred:

• Strong data analysis background. Experience with Python, Matlab, JMP, e.g. 5+ years of professional working experience at a lithium ion battery manufacturer and/or on a cell engineering team within an automotive company
• Experience with large prismatic commercial cell form factors
• Experience in prismatic cell manufacture processes

Education:

• Master's or Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant work experience
