Job summary

The Cardiology Directorate has an exciting opportunity for nurses who are able to work autonomously along the entire cardiac pathway and use their extensive cardiac nursing knowledge and skills to deliver a high standard of autonomous practice to patients who have presented with an acute cardiac condition based on Heartlands site

The role will involve working in all areas of Cardiology across the Directorate and the use of Advanced Cardiac Assessment, & Advanced ECG Interpretation. This will be evidenced by specialist critical care/cardiology modules at BSc levels (as a minimum). History Taking and Clinical Examination skills are essential. Non-Medical Prescribing skills are also essential but appointment will be offered if currently undertaking the course. ALS certificates are essential. This role is ideal for someone who has been qualified for a minimum of 6 years, including a minimum of 2 years at Band 6 level in a cardiology, critical care or emergency care setting.

The post holder will be working in an Interventional Cardiac Centre for Primary PCIs, joining a Cardiac Pathway Nursing Team who triage and assess patients autonomously along the entire Cardiac Pathway from A&E, through to Acute Medicine and Cardiology. This team are integral in delivering timely care for patients suffering acute myocardial infarction.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate seamless specialist service. They will ensure patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. As a nursing expert the post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist's service, providing advice, education and support to staff, patients their families and carers.

The post holder will lead on clinical audit activity within their specialist area. The post holder is responsible for contributing / leading the on-going development of clinical practice, standards of care within the service including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. They will undertake service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. The post holder is accountable for their safe, effective clinical practice and working as part of a defined team and supporting team performance, ensuring efficient and effective use of physical and human resources. They will provide a range of educational and training packages for health care staff and patients.
