About the role

The BIM Field Technologist is responsible for deploying and managing digital construction technologies on active job sites. This role ensures precise layout execution, accurate site capture, and up-to-date progress tracking using cutting-edge tools such as UAVs (drones), robotic total stations, and reality capture platforms. The Construction Field Technologist acts as the bridge between the virtual design and physical construction, supporting field teams with actionable, real-time data to improve accuracy, safety, and efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform UAV (drone) flights for site documentation, topographic surveys, and reality capture.
  • Process drone data using platforms like DroneDeploy or Pix4D to generate orthomosaics, point clouds, and 3D models.
  • Conduct precise layout in the field using robotic total stations (e.g., Trimble, Leica) based on coordinated BIM models.
  • Support production tracking workflows using tools like Structionsite, OpenSpace, or similar.
  • Collaborate with BIM teams to align field activities with digital models and construction schedules.
  • Facilitate reality capture and 360° photo documentation to validate as-built conditions and construction progress.
  • Interpret construction documents, model data, and point files for use in layout and validation tasks.
  • Assist in field-based QA/QC and verification workflows by comparing installed work to digital design intent.
  • Train field teams and subcontractors on the use of digital tools such as tablets, layout software, and reality capture systems.
  • Maintain accurate digital logs, field reports, and annotated visuals to support project documentation and communication.
  • Act as the on-site point of contact for technology troubleshooting, support, and innovation rollout.
  • Stay current with emerging construction technologies and recommend new tools or workflows to improve field operations.
  • Uphold safety and regulatory compliance in all drone and layout operations.

Professional Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in digital construction technology, field layout, or UAV-based site documentation.
  • Proficiency in tools such as DroneDeploy, Trimble FieldLink, Autodesk Assemble, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Experience with robotic total stations, 3D scanning, or photogrammetry platforms strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of construction workflows, site logistics, and digital model coordination.
  • FAA Part 107 certification (or willingness to obtain) required for drone operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in active construction environments.
  • Position located in Dallas, Texas. May require up to 50% travel to project sites.
