Based on specialized nursing knowledge, the highly trained Clinical Nurse RN, Critical Care/Surgical ICU works with patients who have life-threatening illnesses or conditions, performing duties including:
Based on specialized nursing knowledge, the highly trained Clinical Nurse RN, Critical Care/Surgical ICU manages conditions of patients who have life-threatening illnesses or conditions; including before, during, and after major surgeries;
Manage multiple traumatic injuries involving ≥2 major systems (e.g., head, chest, abdomen);
Making decisions about the use of aggressive interventions;
Assess rapid hemodynamic and respiratory conditions and intervene promptly to mitigate complications of pneumothorax in critically injured trauma patients;
Manage protocol for sedating patients in accordance with the Behavioral Pain Scale (BPS) and Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT), administering Daily Sedation Interruption (SATs) and Spontaneous Breathing Trials (SBTs);
Manage shock protocol when organ dysfunction occurs and administering inotropes if in cardiogenic shock;
Manage protocol involving central lines and arterial lines in Trendelenburg for internal jugular or subclavian treatment, monitoring for pneumothorax, bleeding, or air embolism;
Deliver Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) by assessing Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), priming CRRT circuits, and managing electrolytes;
Treat cardiogenic shock, acute coronary syndrome, severe heart failure with Intra-Aortic Ballon Bump (IABP) Protocol, executing hemodynamic monitoring protocol;
Manage intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage by external ventricular drain (EVD) protocol;
Activate Massive Blood Transfusion Protocol (MBTP), managing complications such as transfusion reactions, volume overload, coagulopathy, electrolyte imbalances, and organ dysfunction (especially kidney and lungs);
Manage ICU Code Blue Protocol;
Treat respiratory failure with mechanical ventilation, administer Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) protocol;
Manage ICU Sepsis Protocol, monitoring for hypotension;
Manage administration of vasopressors and inotropes to raise blood pressure (vasoconstriction) and boost heart contractability.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nursing or directly related field.
Licensure Requirement:
Eligibility for Missouri license as a Registered Nurse.
