Position Summary
The High School Study Hall Aide is responsible for supervising students assigned to study halls and providing a safe, orderly, and productive environment that supports student learning, attendance, and appropriate behavior during the school day. The study hall aide assists building administration and staff by monitoring student conduct, maintaining attendance records as assigned, and helping ensure that students remain engaged in their academic tasks during study hall periods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The following duties are representative of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Supervise students assigned to study hall in a safe, orderly, and respectful environment.
- Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules, expectations, and procedures.
- Take and maintain accurate attendance records for each assigned study hall period.
- Ensure students remain on task and use study hall time appropriately for academic work, reading, or approved educational activities.
- Limit and monitor student movement in and out of study hall in accordance with school procedures.
- Issue passes or verify student passes as directed by administration.
- Communicate student concerns, attendance issues, and disciplinary matters to the appropriate administrator, counselor, or teacher.
- Assist in maintaining a quiet and structured atmosphere conducive to study and independent work.
- Monitor use of school-issued devices, materials, and classroom resources during study hall.
- Support students in following classroom and school-wide expectations.
- Assist with basic clerical or supervisory duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and school matters in accordance with district expectations and applicable law.
- Participate in required training, meetings, and professional development as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
- Maintain knowledge of and implement school emergency and safety protocols (e.g., fire drills, lockdowns).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree, college coursework, or prior school-related experience preferred.
- Experience working with high school-age students is preferred.
- Ability to utilize positive behavior interventions and basic de-escalation techniques.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in a school setting.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic school operations and student supervision practices.
- Ability to maintain classroom order and appropriate student behavior.
- Ability to build positive rapport with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations.
- Ability to observe, report, and respond appropriately to student issues and concerns.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace/Microsoft Office and ability to learn Student Information Systems (e.g. Canvas, Skyward), or ability to learn
- Ability to navigate and monitor Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online credit recovery platforms, or ability to learn.
