Entry Level Field Technician

Glorieta Geoscience, A division of GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking an Entry Level Field Technician to support the Environmental and Water Resource practice in our Santa Fe, New Mexico office. As a Field Technician, you will work on a wide variety of exciting and challenging projects. In a typical year, we collect hundreds of surface and groundwater samples for the agricultural and water industries of New Mexico. We are looking for candidates with an interest in field work and an emphasis on environmental sampling, data collection, and field documentation. Between field projects, you will work in an office setting located in Santa Fe, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis, equipment maintenance, and reporting.
This is an entry level position where considerable training will be provided to the candidate to prepare them for assigned tasks. Skills in the areas of basic scientific data collection, instrumentation, and mechanical trouble shooting/repair are an important component to this job. You will work in a close-knit group with seasoned professionals who will train and mentor you while helping you diversify your skill set and achieve your career goals. Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
- Perform soil, surface, and groundwater sampling for environmental or geotechnical analyses.
- Conduct on-site inspections of sample locations.
- Organize, inventory, and maintain supplies of sampling equipment and materials.
- Execute mechanical trouble shooting and repair of field sampling equipment and instrumentation.
- Gather data and other samples to be used in the preparation of hydrological and engineering deliverables.
- Field oversight and documentation of subsurface explorations and collection of data/samples for geotechnical or environmental analysis.
- Prepare reports summarizing data collected in the field.
- Compile and organize data collected by others.
- Handle field and office QA/QC responsibilities, including calibration of sampling equipment and instrumentation.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.

Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Natural or Applied Sciences, Agricultural/Range Sciences, Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent education. Professional experience may be substituted for degree.
- Ability to frequently travel overnight up to 5 days a week and on some rare occasions up to 10 days in duration.
- As company vehicles are provided for this work, a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record is required.
- Highly motivated self-starter with a professional attitude.
- Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities.
- Adeptness to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Aptitude to obtain strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Candidates must have the ability to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather, lift 50 pounds, and use and maintain field equipment required to perform job function.
The following training is not required but is a plus:
- Prior geotechnical and/or environmental-related experience
- 40-hour HAZWOPER Training
