Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

Our team, Supply Partner Experience (SPX) Reservations & Payments, is the core of the Expedia Group partner experience where 77M bookings flow through annually. Your contributions as a Senior Manager, Software Development Engineer (front-end) will directly impact the hundreds of thousands of partners around the world that use our platform to manage reservations and payments. This role, based in Austin, will be contributing to our key initiatives to continuously optimize user experiences and make our platform easily extensible for other lines of business.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and coordinate with team to define the measures of success for process improvements

  • Determine different phase milestones and priorities with product management peers

  • Partner with the business to have a clear understanding of how the technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line

  • Advocate for operational excellence and act as a spokesperson for software design standard methodologies

  •  Research and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • Gain insight into how customers use technology to their advantage and apply this knowledge to suggest areas for improvement

  • Convey the right information to the correct parties to ensure that proposals for improvements are given the proper consideration and technical issues are resolved in a timely manner

  • Remain informed on technology trends. Examine inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and encourage engineers to improve them

  • Bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel. Report on team status faithfully and listen for suggestions to improve delayed project work

  • Review the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish goals and identify staffing and talent resources to fill project roles

  • Guide others in the development of team and individual goals, providing regular and specific feedback, and assessing performance

  • Encourage and support education and professional development of others


Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Hands-on proficiency in front-end technologies; hands-on coding experience

  • At least 8+ years of software development experience (non-managerial)

  • An established People Leader who leads a team of Engineers (at least 2+ years of people management experience)

  • Have had experience hiring 5+ engineers into own team; performance-managed at least 3 Individual Contributors; have managed individuals across different locations

  • Have strong technical competence which allows you to be responsible for multiple technical domains, explaining technology choices to technical and non-technical observers

  • Act as a mentor to both individual contributors and managers on your own teams

  • Have delivered solutions to business problems spanning teams for a user experience

  • Collaborated with the product team to deliver and influence a product roadmap

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
