Cornell University Cooperative Extension-NYC (CUCE-NYC) engages NYC communities in experiential learning opportunities. CUCE-NYC’s programs are the fruit of a long-standing partnership of Cornell Cooperative Extension, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the College of Human Ecology to support extension education in NYC. CUCE-NYC offers programs in Nutrition & Health, Family & Youth Development, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. CUCE-NYC engages Cornell programs, students and faculty to partner with NYC communities in generating, using and translating cutting edge research.
The Opportunity
The Community Educator facilitates nutrition and health education workshops in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island boroughs. Workshops are conducted remotely and/or in person, as needed, to both adult and youth audiences in a variety of community settings, such as schools, churches, and not for profit sites. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance your knowledge of nutrition and health and share it with your community.
Key responsibilities include:
Recruiting and marketing to community agencies.
Teaching food, nutrition, budgeting and food safety to workshop participants.
Evaluation and documentation of nutrition programs and planning new initiatives.
This is a fully on-site position located at 445 East 148th Street, Bronx, NY 10455. Regular business hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm. Some evenings and weekends as scheduled.
The pay range is $19.59 - $25.78 per hour.
This is a full-time, 35 hours/week, one-year appointment with the possibility of extension depending on funding, available work, and successful performance.

What You Will Do
Success Factors
You will shine in this role if you are familiar with the local communities and schools in the Bronx, Manhattan or Staten Island (preferably, you would have lived there for a while), you are passionate about the topic you are teaching, and you teach from your heart. Having a general computer knowledge and familiarity with Power Point, Microsoft applications, and calendaring will aid greatly in the work you will do.
Required Qualifications
Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Formal training beyond High School of 6 months -1 year with minimum 6 months’ work experience - or equivalent combination.
Ability to teach in an informal setting and communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
Ability to travel throughout NYC and work out of doors in a variety of weather conditions. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Must be bilingual in Spanish/English.
Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in nutrition preferred.
