Overview
The Senior Packaging Specialist is a member of the Global Packaging Committee (GPC), will focus and provide technical/analytical support on packaging quality, packaging improvements, optimization and efficiency, that satisfy the requirements of our customers and Celanese. The Packaging Specialist will help build, maintain and improve the knowledge and capability on packaging across Celanese. Besides working with multi-disciplinary teams and being a true team player, the Packaging Specialist must also be able to act autonomously, be entrepreneurial, highly ambitious and inspiring. This position is pivotal in delivering best-in-class packaging material costs, quality, sustainability and performance, both in our manufacturing sites and our customers.
Responsibilities
YOU will be involved in the following tasks:
Packaging Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical/analytical support on packaging quality, improvements, optimization and efficiency, that satisfy requirements of our customers and Celanese.
- In line with business strategy, support packaging improvement and development projects/initiatives, and packaging solutions, ensuring a right balance between quality and productivity.
- Collaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams in order to effectively improve existing packaging and deliver cost-effective and fit for purpose packaging solutions to the business.
- Contribute to the reduction of QNs on product/packaging damages during handling and transportation steps in between Celanese and our customers, when packaging design is a key contributing factor.
- Lead packaging projects related to packaging improvements or non-conformances.
- Analyze packaging QNs performance and share information/updates with relevant stakeholders and make improvements to avoid such QNs.
- Help build, maintain and improve knowledge and capability on packaging across Celanese.
- Gather existing packaging specifications internally or from suppliers and maintain the global packaging portal.
- Build a comprehensive database / spreadsheet as a one stop reference comprising of all packaging materials used at all sites.
- Basic packaging specification management, including checking the quality of information.
- Identify gaps in packaging specifications and define an action plan to close them to ensure information is complete, updated, and readily available for users.
- Identify industry standards on packaging and promote internal training to build internal expertise and capability in packaging.
- Ensure that existing and new packaging for all products meets our customer and business expectations whilst adhering to legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards.
- Ensure existing and new packaging for all products achieves manufacturing performance by proposing cost effective solutions.
Packaging Related Regulatory Tasks:
- Be the primary go to person for all EU packaging related regulatory requirements and other packaging support needs / projects in EU.
- Understanding and interpret regulatory, legislative & directive requirements for packaging in each EU country and support Celanese compliance to it.
- Supporting registration needs in different EU countries for packaging waste reporting.
- Preparing packaging waste reports required for each country based on each country requirements and working with country coordinators on the reporting needs.
- Working with 3rd party suppliers and setting up take back partners to develop agreements on what packaging waste much be taken back in each EU country.
- Understanding and supporting recycled content implementation into packaging.
- Supporting packaging tax initiatives for different EU countries.
- Support recycling initiatives.
- Supporting customer requests for documentation to meet local packaging regulations, directives & decrees.
- Supporting reduction of single use plastic objective.
- Supporting creation of Datema pack codes for each material.
Qualifications
What YOU will bring to the team:
Education:
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree level qualification in a technical, chemical, packaging discipline or quality management or comparable with Expertise in packaging preferred.
Experience:
- Solid understanding and experience with packaging materials technology, quality systems and quality tools utilization (SPC, RCA, FMEA, etc.). Extensive hands on knowledge and experience in packaging is an advantage.
- Experience or skills in project management.
