Role Description
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join the team at Form Energy reporting to Form Energy’s Vice President, Strategic Supply. Our Strategic Supply organization is a small and high performing team within Form focused on enabling the next generation of product and scale of key starting materials. We operate at the cross section of business development and supply chain, serving as a partner across Supply Chain, Operations, and Tech. As Form Energy scales manufacturing, this role will be critical to identifying, managing, and delivering on success with supply chain partners and outside collaborators key to enabling scale and mass-production of Form’s batteries.
This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Eighty Four, PA facility. Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
Lead and/or manage technical programs at vendor sites to enable outsourcing of key active components of Form’s cells, with a primary focus on Form’s metallic iron anode.
Define the programs and schedules, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to drive programs with external partners through stage-gate style go/no-go reviews.
Develop scale-up and transition plans as applicable with supply chain, finance, quality, engineering, and/or other Form teams. Lead transition efforts to assure smooth integration with broader company operations.
Routinely serve as an external spokesperson for Form, using subject matter expertise and expert judgment to drive progress on critical programs.
Collaborate cross-functionally where related to metallurgy and powder metal processing, identifying relevant industry standards, operational parameters, and cost considerations to support internal process development and scale-up.
Work with Form’s Finance team to develop program budgets and bottoms-up unit economics in support of make vs. buy decisions. Lead or contribute to techno-economic evaluations of material and component processing unit operations.
Support successful negotiation of agreements cross-functionally with Form’s Legal, Supply Chain, R&D, and/or Commercial teams.
Frequent travel to Form and supplier/partner sites:
On-site at Form in PA or WV: up to 2 days per week
On-site at Vendor: 1-3 days per week, depending on program activity
What you'll bring:
10+ years in a technical leadership position ideally driving innovation in battery materials and/or powder metals industries.
BS or higher in Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or related
Experience leading or working on technically complex outsource or in-source projects cross-functionally with outside parties, internal development, and manufacturing scale-up teams.
Working knowledge of metal/metal oxide powder processing, powder metals, some electrochemical and/or battery experience a plus.
Ability to navigate all levels of the organization to understand current and upcoming needs, cross-prioritize initiatives and communicate expectations
Customer oriented mindset with a focus on finding creative solutions to problems in order to enable the business
Demonstrated track record in applying influence and delivering on initiatives cross-functionally or with limited reporting authority, finding creative ways to “get it done”
