We are currently seeking to hire an experienced Truck Driver (Tractor-Trailer) with active Class A CDL to support launching, recovering, and over-the-road transport of military watercraft. The position will be based out of our compound on Naval Station Norfolk, VA.
The Truck Driver drives trucks, often with trailers, to transport boats, materials, merchandise, equipment, or workers between various types of establishments such as: warehouses, maintenance yards, freight depots, docks, boat launch ramps and anywhere else that is required. This driver may also load or unload trucks, with or without helpers, make minor mechanical repairs and keep trucks in good working order.
Most critical to success in this role is expertise and experience with moving boats around yards and facilities and in and out of the water. These tasks are accomplished mainly with trailered vessels, so CDL-A Tractor-Trailer is key.
Some of the basic duties of the position include (but are not limited to):
- Conduct over-the-road transport of boats, materials, merchandise, equipment, or workers between various locations.
- Utilize technical expertise to identify, evaluate, and correct minor mechanical and electrical issues involving trucks, trailers, and transportation equipment.
- Load and unload trucks and trailers, ensuring cargo is secured.
- Performs a variety of duties concerned with the operation and upkeep of small marine craft and will be involved with launches, recoveries, and storage of watercraft on trailers.
Work Conditions:
- Work conditions will vary but will mostly be performed outdoors.
- Physical dexterity is required.
- Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and reaching.
- You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- May be required to work first shift (0700-1530) or second shift (0830-1700).
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience performing basic seamanship duties.
- Familiarity with small boat operation, basic small craft maintenance, line handling and launching/recovering watercraft using trailers.
- Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
- All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
