Job Contributions and Key Responsibilities
Staff Management
- Manage Food Safety Specialists.
- Set and monitor goals / objectives / assignments, provide adequate coaching / counseling, develop and monitor employee development plans, and provide recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning process.
Food Safety Program Management
- Responsible for Food Safety documentation Including management of manuals, policies and procedures.
- Ensure Food Safety records are maintained, updated and available
- Lead and manage the development of procedures, work instructions and documentary review, taking into account updates and new regulations.
- Ensure production leadership and ranch management carry out the Food Safety Program. Maintain open two way communication and participate in meetings.
- Ensure that the organization is FSMA/Global Gap/Canada GAP compliant
- Liaison with outside entities and local Ag Commissioners office to ensure all sites are active and restricted materials are registered.
Organic Certification / California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) Program/California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA)
- Manage organic compliance program assigned districts/entities (wholly owned, Partners and Growers) to include but not limited to:
- Basic painting and minor repairs duties
- Paint exterior and interior walls, structures, fencing, etc, as needed and document through appropriate work order process.
- Remove graffiti to common areas damaged by vandalism as needed and record in appropriate log work order system.
- Completes minor drywall repairs where necessary.
- Leading Inspections / Audits
- Training and educating production management
- Maintaining, processing and updating certifications
- Gathering and submitting required data
- Maintaining knowledge of requirements of each type of certification
- Responsible for final approvals on all new suppliers, products and programs associated with organic program
- Develop policies and implement all new SOE regulation
- Create traceability protocols for all cold storage movements
- Renew CCOF and CDFA contracts annually
- Prepare and submit CDFA Cost Share applications annually
- Lead investigations, prepare and Respond to all noncompliance’s issued by certification body
- Develop structure and material for Organic Committees
Regulatory and Social Compliance/ Inspections /Audits
- Prepare and lead all regulatory inspections
- Responsible for leading the resolution of non-conformities as well as the submission of timely evidence in the required format
- Deliver required Food Safety reports, to include inspection, to production and ranch management
- Collaborate with Food Safety Management Team to ensure sustainability regulations indicated om audits and legal compliance are taken into account and applied
- Comprehensive audit reports will be written and kept on file detailing all observations and corrective actions related to each assessment
- Manage the execution of product removals and recalls for all assigned categories and for communications from and to our distribution partner Driscoll’s
- Ensure document control is applied to forms and procedures
Training & Education
- Development, implementation, maintenance and providing of Food Safety technical training, to include presentations and manual(s) (strategies, processes and requirements).
- Provide training new to new and existing staff, management (Production team) and agricultural workers on the Food Safety Program
Water Compliance/Organic Land Rotation
- Support Land and Water Resources Management as needed
- Prepare reports
- Collect and prepare ranch data / mapping on planted acreage
- Monitor yearly water and commodity allocation / usage.
