The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Research Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Develop capabilities in different film and composite technologies and apply to new products and processes
- Ensure successful technology scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing and assist with troubleshooting process and product quality issues
- Characterization and analysis of physical properties of polymers, particles, films and dispersion.
- Develop correlations from materials properties to process parameters to product measurements, thereby creating clear cause and effect understanding
- Presenting results in a clear and concise manner to a multidisciplinary team and making recommendations with respect to material formulation and/or process modifications
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Currently possess or in final year of Bachelors degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Currently possess or in final year of Bachelors degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- Experience with cast and oriented film processes
- Experience with functional composites, highly particle composites, composite films or foams
- Previous or current 3M Internship, Co-Op or Tech Aide experience
- Understanding of materials properties, rheology, metrology, and process equipment
- "Hands on, self starter" orientation to their work
- Previous experience with intellectual property (IP)
- Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential
- Must be able to work well both in multi-disciplinary teams and independently
- Methodical, problem solving attitude
Work location: St. Paul, MN
Travel: May include up to 10%
