JOB TITLE: Surgical Services Supply Technician
DEPARTMENT: Materials Management
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Surgical Services Supply Technician works to ensure adequate supply levels are kept for all Surgery and Anesthesia inventories.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
2. Performs documentation duties, including ordering and checking of supplies in the appropriate EMR.
3. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified by the institution.
4. Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own skills and actions within scope of hospital policies and procedures.
5. Participates actively in staff development and orientation activities for the department.
6. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation of continuing education to meet own development needs.
7. Participates in ordering and restocking supplies process for the unit from central supply. Assists in other Materials Management department duties when requested.
8. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
9. Uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and staff.
10. Remains flexible in staffing patterns and participates in temporary assignments as requested by either the Director of Materials Management or the Director of Surgical Operations.
PHYSICAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Visual acuity to read & check receipt of requisitions, purchasing, and inventory documentation.
2. Work requires the ability to lift, carry, and push carts, boxes and supplies.
Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
• Floor to waist - 50 pounds
• 14” to waist - 50 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 30 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 20 pounds
• Carry 50 pounds for 30 feet
• Push 50 pounds/force for 30 feet
• Pull 50 pounds/force for 30 feet
3. Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Director of Materials Management.
Has a functional reporting relationship to Director of Surgical Operations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. High School graduate required.
2. Must have computer skills to order supplies and view surgery schedules
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category II – Some Risk – based in the OR setting, this job exposes you to an environment where contact blood, body fluids and tissues may occur. However, with no direct patient care, risk to this direct contact is minimal. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine as a precautionary measure.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
