Job Description

AECOM is seeking experienced Environmental Geologists and Scientists in the Northeast region with leaking underground storage tank (UST) investigation/remediation experience and leaking UST regulatory knowledge in the states of CT, MA, NH, NJ, NY, RI, and/or VT.  This position will report to one of the AECOM offices in the Northeast region including but not limited to Chelmsford MA, Rocky Hill CT, Providence RI, Buffalo NY, Albany NY, Piscataway NJ.

This position will support Project Managers in technical report writing and supervision of complex field tasks, including environmental site investigations, drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sample collection, remediation system installation and operations and maintenance, and related work. The candidate will also provide office support for project management, regulatory compliance, data management and technical evaluation, and report preparation for a leaky UST environmental investigation and remediation projects.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and productively in a collaborative team-environment, foster team building through inclusion and mentorship, display a high level of organization and communication.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Data management, evaluation and report writing including drafting environmental investigation work plans and reports.
  • Field-based task management and oversight of environmental investigation and remediation programs.
  • Health and safety stewardship, including local field visits.
  • Coordinating work schedules with AECOM staff and subcontractors
  • Qualified candidates must be comfortable with periodic travel throughout the area.
  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.
  • Mentor project Jr. staff
  • Project Management tasks including developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules and tracking costs.
  • Preparing cost estimates for field investigation work and for reporting tasks.

This position requires both office and field work; the successful candidate should expect to be out in the field up to 20% of the time mentoring junior staff. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Geology, or closely related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience and/or equivalent of experience and/or education.
  • Valid Driver’s License, subject to a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record Screening
  • Due to the nature of this role, US citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of environmental consulting experience which includes UST regulations experience.
  • Data evaluation, interpretation, and reporting experience.
  • Experience coordinating field work with staff and subcontractors.
  • Experience preparing draft work plans and reports for environmental investigations.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and annual updates.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience working for clients in the oil and gas market sector.
  • Experience working with environmental regulatory agencies in CT, MA, NH, NJ, NY, RI, and/or VT.
