JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
We are searching for an undergraduate student to join our Cyber Security Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).
The successful candidate will assist our Security Operation Center (SOC). Primary functions will be in assisting this unit in a blue team capacity.

You will:
Conduct phishing response and mitigation activities
Conduct scanning and review of software and hardware
Function as a level 1 Soc Analyst and triage all tickets for that unit
Aide team in organization wide incident response efforts
Assist in computer and network forensics
Help endpoint and network monitoring efforts
Work with senior members to promote proactive defensive efforts (eg. threat hunting)
Perform security engineering tasks internal to cyber defense tools
Students studying within the field of Information and Cyber Security, Information Science and Technology, or Computer Science/Engineering are highly encouraged to apply.
Experience with the following is preferred:
Familiarity with defensive cyber tools such as Firewalls, SIEM, XDR/EDR, CASB, FIM, IDS/IPS
Networking fundamentals
System administration and troubleshooting
Scripting (bash, python, etc)
Mitre ATT&CK and D3FEND frameworks
The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer. This is a paid internship opportunity located in State College, PA. Relocation and housing are not provided.
