Position Summary

This 3rd shift Data Center role of Network Engineering is accountable for implementing Data Center standards, documenting all installs, maintaining best practices, performing system monitoring and analytics and providing top tier (level 4) operational support. This key technical position is responsible for the racking and cabling for all data center infrastructure equipment. This includes servers, storage, databases & network. The Network Engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting any cabling or equipment issues. 

 

The Network Engineer will be responsible for overseeing site operations and projects and will be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment in the data center. The Network Engineer will maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs at a minimum. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability, meeting or exceeding defined service level expectations for the data center operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Provision, plan, install, and maintain equipment in the data center including servers, network switches and routers.
  • Rack and Stack. Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, cable pulls and inventory management.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot cabling and power delivery infrastructure to perform repairs as needed.
  • Order and procure equipment and parts necessary for installations in advance.
  • Manage shipping and receiving of parts, hardware, devices and perform associated documentation/updates/notifications .
  • Monitor ticket queues, update ticket status, and close tickets within ServiceNOW and SBM Team Track
  • Coordinate expansion and growth projects with requestors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data center operations.
  • Role also serves an on-call function on a rotational basis.
  • Position will transition into a late shift to cover evening changes and incident resolution after a period for training.


Required Qualifications:

2+ years of experience working in a Data center.

Must be able to work third shift.

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills; must be an efficient and effective communicator.
  • Approve and track all Change Management tasks/tickets, enabling changes and maintenance work at the site.
  • Lead and perform basic support functions such as opening/closing/fulfilling tickets, performing root cause analysis and prioritizing tasks.
  • Lead and perform racking, network connectivity and powering of all hardware at the data center.
  • Install and troubleshoot all types of low-voltage cable (copper, ethernet, fiber), including but not limited to testing & labeling of all cables & panels.
  • Managing Vendors – In coordination with the Lead, maintains a relationship with the vendors that supply and support the electrical and mechanical systems and components. When possible, attends major system preventive maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform component replacements of hard drives, power supplies & memory boards.
  • Responding to Escalations – Follows escalation processes and acts as first responder to major equipment and system issues.
  • Manage the multiple teams and vendors engaged in the equipment deployment process (i.e. – network server, database, application and/or storage systems) within the data center/location.
  • Perform asset and inventory management functions of all technology infrastructure housed within our data centers.
