Position Description

The Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine offers an exceptional opportunity for a qualified candidate. The MUSC HSC Director has a pivotal leadership role in the strategic, operational, and financial management of the center, ensuring compliance with simulation-based education best practices, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation standards, and institutional policies and procedures. They work with many individuals from across the MUSC enterprise and externally, including faculty, students, trainees, healthcare practitioners, technicians, and administrative personnel to provide high-quality simulation-based education and foster innovation, teamwork, and research.

The Director is a full-time position that reports to the College of Medicine Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education and supervises the center’s Operations and Business Managers. They work closely with the center’s Medical Director.

Position Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in a health-related field or education (A Master's degree with experience in leadership, higher education, and simulation-based education may be considered)
  • Five years of experience in higher education 
  • Three years of experience in healthcare simulation-based education
  • Experience in a leadership role (e.g., director, manager, supervisor)
  • Experience creating simulation-based education curricula
  • SSH Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or eligible for certification within the first year of appointment

Responsibilities:

Leadership of strategic planning and primary liaison between the simulation center and various stakeholders in the institution and the community, advocating for integration of simulation-based learning across healthcare education and practice. (20%)

Management of MUSC HSC operations and business staff, ensuring adherence to education and institutional standards, policies and procedures. (25%)

Management of the financial health of the center under a cost-recovery model. (10%)

Quality assurance and continuous quality improvement for the center. (10%)

Leadership of education in the center including development of simulation-based learning activities and teaching and assessment materials that adhere to best practices. (30%)

Research and innovation initiatives in healthcare simulation, including grant writing and scholarly work. (5%)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Laerdal LLEAP software (desired)
  • Ability to create Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM)-compliant online modules (desired)
