Purpose

The Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering is hiring a Research Fellows for a specific project related to advanced electronics packaging, nanoscale additive manufacturing, metasurface optics, precision machine design, and computational modeling. The Research Fellow position is considered a temporary training position that may be renewed annually, for a maximum of three years, based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and the continuation of funding.

Responsibilities

  • Performing experiments, analyzing data, optomechanical design, and/or computational modeling.

  • Writing reports and giving oral presentations on results of experiments for sponsors

  • Help manage undergraduate and graduate students working on related projects.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, electrical engineering, computational engineering, or related field received more than 3 years ago.  Demonstrated experience in materials testing and mechanical engineering.  Experience or familiarity with one of the following data collection and computational modeling.  Ability to work well with cross-functional, and varied teams.  Ability to manage and lead external engagement and collaboration on projects. 

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: electronics packaging, FEA modeling, interface modeling, precision machine design, optomechanical design, metasurface optics, materials chemistry, additive manufacturing, nanomaterials.  Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with a demonstrable ability to reach a variety of audiences in academia, industry, and government.

$65,000
