Firmware Design Engineer

Alarm.com is seeking a passionate and talented Firmware Design Engineer to join our Device Engineering team. The position is ideal for candidates who want to join our interdisciplinary Manufacturing Team, building cutting-edge, connected IoT devices and smart sensors for home automation and security applications. Our team works with a variety of next-generation technologies (LTE, Cat-M, NB-IoT, sub-Ghz, Wifi, BLE, Lora) integrating low-power design, cellular networks, local wireless networks, sensors, and signal processing. This hands-on role bridges the gap between software and the physical world, focused on supporting our high volume manufacturing partners. 

The Manufacturing team works with other product development teams to ensure each product can be designed, tested, and produced at our contract manufacturing partners in a reliable and repeatable manner. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field of equivalent experience
• 3 to 5 years experience 
• Experience with software development using C and/or python programming language 
• Experience designing firmware to be used in a high volume manufacturing environment.  
• Experience using revision control systems such as Git or SVN
• Experience with common communication protocols
• Experience with microcontrollers
• Rigorous attention to detail with a focus on robustness, scalability, and quality of products
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a small, fast-paced environment
• Self-starter, analytical, tenacious problem solver
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Passion for working with technology and excitement for creating high quality consumer technology product

Bonus: 

• Wireless technology familiarity (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, etc).
• ARM Cortex-M familiarity
• Experience with high volume manufacturing and test fixture design
• Experience with circuit design, simulation, and testing 
• Familiarity in hardware design, and schematics

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Design, develop, and test embedded firmware for products to interface with manufacturing test equipment.
• Design, develop, and test embedded firmware for test fixtures
• Work closely with Mechanical design engineers to meet product requirements with challenging space constraints
• Collaborate with Software engineers to ensure compatibility with test manufacturing computer software 
• Operate independently but working with senior management to understand and be fully aligned with company priorities, goals, and strategies
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to build new devices to expand the Alarm.com connected device ecosystem
