The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.
The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout the agency to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support services to carry out their respective missions. The Division of Administration works collaboratively with many program areas offering internal resources and support necessary to function efficiently and effectively. The Division of Administration employs approximately 490 public employees and provides services in the areas of building maintenance, occupational safety and health, operational support, security, transportation, and print production.
The Division also provides support to the Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) via nutrition and food services, construction, and facilities management for its two 24/7 Secure Detention facilities – Crossroads Juvenile Center (Brooklyn) and Horizon Juvenile Center (Bronx).
We are seeking new hires to fill positions under the Office of Detention Construction & Building Operations for a Stationary Engineer. The candidates will be responsible for operating, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, testing, and adjusting various equipment, including boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, chillers, cooling towers, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, as well as lighting and associated equipment. This role will be based at City-owned Detention Facilities stated above, with the possibility of reassignment based on the agency's needs to the other facility.
What we’re looking for:
The New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is currently seeking to fill the position of Construction Project Manager. In this role, the Construction Project Manager Level 2 will be under the guidance of the of the Office of Detention Construction & Building Operations. The chosen applicant will be an integral member of the Division of Administration Construction team, which assists ACS’ 7000+ employees and manages a new budget of budget of over $350M. While reporting to the Office of Detention Construction & Building Operations, the Construction Project Manager will commence and supervise work in the construction field including managing rehabilitation projects or assisting in overseeing routine reconstruction projects; oversees private contractors and/ vendors; determine the need for and feasibility for construction work; carrying out new construction, rehabilitation, repairs, alterations and/or structural maintenance work. The Construction Project Manager will also be responsible for scheduling and running meeting; reviews and approves other
contract changes in accordance with citywide procedures and reviews and approves contractors' payments and requisitions submitted by contractors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Directs routine construction inspections by monitoring activities/ work processes/ facilitating good working relationships, in order to ensure projects are completed in accordance with standardized activities
- Assigns/ allocate construction personnel to routine construction projects, based on experience and training in order to achieve maximum utilization of project personnel.
- Maintains liaison with contractors/ allied occupational groups/ City Departments/ others, through participation in unit/ staff meetings by attending/ facilitating agenda adoption/ encouraging relevant discussions, in order to resolve routine construction problems.
- Rates/ evaluate job performance of subordinate staff by observation recordkeeping/ use of appropriate forms, in order to document employees' level of performance.
- Interprets/ implements for the agency/ to interpreted third parties the intent and ramifications of specifications/ practices/ safety standards relating to routine construction projects, in order to keep contractors/ public informed and in compliance.
- Trains subordinates in performance of construction inspections by holding individual and unit information meetings/ inviting and answering questions/ demonstrating/ providing examples of proper work methods, in order to increase employees' areas of competence.
