We are seeking an Associate Legal Counsel to support and manage a variety of litigation and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of litigation experience (in house, law firm, or public sector) with a focus on one or more of the following areas—unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, false advertising, privacy and/or intellectual property law. Experience handling consumer disputes involving terms of service and/or promotional rules is a plus.
We are a small but collaborative Legal Department, and we’re looking for a team player with a strong interest in these areas and a willingness to learn and grow with the company.
This is a remote role with preference to the Chicago, Illinois area, but not mandatory.
What You'll Do:
- Assist in managing litigation and regulatory matters related to unfair competition, marketing, consumer protection and intellectual property laws.
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, discovery responses, motions, subpoenas, and legal memoranda.
- Provide legal review of contracts, compliance documents, and other legal agreements with a focus on marketing, consumer protection, and intellectual property laws.
- Advise clients on competition-related issues including advertising, and unfair trade practices, and consumer disputes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support business objectives while offering clear, practical legal guidance. Monitor and interpret legal developments in competition and consumer protection laws and communicate key updates to legal team and clients/stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal clients and stakeholders through effective communication and a solution-oriented approach.
What You'll Bring:
- 2+ years of experience in litigation, with a focus on one or more of the following areas—unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, false advertising, privacy and/or intellectual property law.
- A law degree from an accredited institution
- Must be licensed to practice in one or more US jurisdiction.
- Exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills.
- Experience in litigation, including motion drafting and discovery responses.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with our legal team on larger matters.
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of competition, consumer protection, advertising, and/or intellectual property laws and regulations.
- Prior experience with legal technology tools and case management software is a plus.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to clients clearly.
- Effective time management, prioritization and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a timely and professional manner, along with a commitment to provide clients with high-quality services.
- Must have capability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- Proficiency in Spanish is a plus but is not required. #LI-REMOTE
