Position Summary
ADM is seeking a dynamic and strategic Sales Director to lead the expansion of our Pet & Animal Wellbeing (PAW) portfolio in North America, with a primary focus on microbiome-based solutions. This includes prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics, and preservation systems that enhance animal health and wellness. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned commercial leader with deep expertise in the Pet Nutrition sector, particularly within microbiome or functional ingredients. The Sales Director will be responsible for building new business, driving revenue growth, and shaping the commercial strategy in alignment with CD&D, Marketing, and Regional & Global sales teams.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree required in Animal Nutrition/Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or Business Administration; MBA preferred
- Minimum 10 years of business-to-business (B2B) technical sales experience in Pet Health / Nutrition; Microbiome ingredient sales and R&D experience preferred.
- Proven success in strategic account and territory management, contract negotiations, and revenue generation.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across global, matrixed teams.
- Proficiency in CRM tools, notably Salesforce and Power BI.
- Remote position with national responsibilities
- Travel up to 40% for key customer engagements, trade shows, and internal collaboration meetings
- After thoroughly analyzing market needs and challenges, consumer trends, and the competitive landscape, develop a 5-year Strategic Growth Plan for the PAW North America business. This plan should include customer segmentation, channel identification, and cross-selling opportunities with other ingredients in ADM’s Health & Wellness portfolio.
- Create and uphold the PAW regional commercial strategy; formulate short- and medium-term commercial plans to grow the customer pipeline in the Pet market segment.
- Deliver the revenue and gross margin targets according to the 5-year Strategic Growth Plan
- Work with the customer’s main stakeholders (Senior leadership, Procurement, R&D, and Marketing teams) and ADM’s CD&D teams to ensure the ingredient solution is smoothly integrated into the final product matrix.
- Provide technical service support to customers in coordination with ADM’s microbiome R&D and CD&D teams globally.
- Develop and execute strategic account development plans for key customers to drive revenue growth and market expansion, and Quarterly Business Reviews to track progress
- Manage sales process/pipeline in accordance with company targets via Salesforce
- Align go-to-market activities in each region with the different ADM PAW commercial teams, and coordinate the approach and messaging with ADM’s marketing team
- Work with ADM colleagues at various production facilities to ensure customer orders are received and processed, and that the customer receives a high standard of service throughout the order process
- Oversee and maintain S&OP sales forecasting, market analysis, and competitive intel for your business
- Serve as a thought leader, representing ADM at industry events, trade shows, and conferences with a focus on lead generation and customer engagement
- Future state management of North American PAW team of Account Managers
Specific Skills (Required)
- We prefer candidates who have a BS in Biochemistry / Microbiology / Chemistry or a similar degree in Life Sciences or Business Administration; an MBA is preferred.
- Must have at least 10 years of successful experience in business development / technical sales or product management in the pet health and nutrition sector. Previous experience in the probiotics industry is preferred.
- Previous leadership experience in market development, introduction, and commercialization of new probiotic-based Pet Nutrition products and project management.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across a matrix organization, preferably globally.
- Key performance metrics include Revenue, Gross Margin (GM), and Operational Profit (OP).
