Purpose
The program coordinator will connect undergraduates with potential faculty research mentors, with a focus on increasing access to research for students with financial barriers. The program coordinator will support the OUR by carrying out administrative tasks related to student research courses as well as business functions, and will provide program-related support as part of the OUR team.
Responsibilities
- Undergraduate research placement: Communicate with students to determine their research interests and goals, and work to connect them with UT faculty research mentors and research assistantship funding. Communicate directly with faculty and staff contacts regarding student research assistantship placement and funding.
- Undergraduate research programming: Contribute to the planning and execution of OUR events and functions, including annual research events (e.g., Longhorn Research Poster Session) and Summer Research Scholars.
- Communications and logistics: Manage the general OUR email account and serve as a first line of communication for inquiries about undergraduate research from students, staff, and faculty. Communicate with faculty teaching OUR courses. Manage email listservs and Canvas rosters. Assist in scheduling and logistical planning for OUR events, including student advising, outreach activities, and info sessions.
- Events and activities: Provide administrative support for OUR activities, including Research Week, the Texas Student Research Showdown, the Summer Research Scholars Program, student workshops, undergraduate research scholarships, and undergraduate research course credit. Perform administrative functions including scheduling, purchasing, updating web content, and event planning and coordination.
- Budget and grades: Manage expense forms and supply orders, track expenditures on OUR accounts and OUR scholarships, and perform other tasks as assigned. Assist with registration management and grade reporting for OUR courses, working with Undergraduate College staff. Communicate grade reporting deadlines to faculty. Track and help resolve incomplete grades.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and experience engaging in research or creative activity. At least three years working with college students. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, and experience working with faculty. Demonstrated attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, student cases, and outreach to faculty. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and a proactive approach to helping students work toward educational goals. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree. Experience with UT-Austin units, programs, and policies related to undergraduate research. Experience collecting and drawing conclusions from student data. Experience working with cross-disciplinary programs. Experience working with students and faculty at UT-Austin. General knowledge of UT administrative procedures.
