Job Description

As part of Our Company's Supply Chain organization at the Manufacturing facility in Durham NC, the Senior Specialist, Planning and Scheduling will be accountable for the creation of a master production schedule that aligns with the global vaccine forecast and market requirements. The Senior Planner/Scheduler will plan workloads and schedule operations for their assigned Operations Integrated Process Teams and /or Quality Operations Lab. This may include the creation and release of production/process orders for operations, scheduling/prioritization of lab activities, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and dilution model creation, procurement/purchase of materials to enable schedules, and working closely with internal and external suppliers as well as customers to ensure timely deliveries. This position is responsible for monitoring inventory levels at all nodes in the supply chain ensuring sufficient inventory to support manufacturing and testing operations while managing inventory in line with financial targets.  This is a senior position in the Durham Supply Chain organization.  Candidates will need to possess and demonstrate strong planning skills and experience in an SAP planning environment.

Position Qualifications:

Depending on departmental requirements, responsibilities of the Senior Planner/Scheduler include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for Muti-faceted purchasing from direct suppliers as well as the integrated supply network (HUB).  This will also include components, raw materials and intermediates from sister production sites

  • Collaborative planning between sites for purchasing intermediate materials

  • Collaborative master data and BOM review in SAP, MRP system to ensure proper planning signals (requisition generation)

  • Creating and releasing process orders to the shop floor operations team.  Leading scheduling meetings, maintaining and conveying production schedule.  

  • Supporting all relevant Manufacturing Execution System (MES) data entries for 24/7 production facility.

  • Creating dilution models and risk memos as needed for production plans.

  • Ensuring sufficient internally and externally sourced materials are available and released to meet all customer demands and downstream processes.

  • Maintaining a rolling 18-24 month site production plan in Advanced Planning Optimizer (APO) driven off of above–site forecasted demand plan.

  • Ensure that the accurate and current production plan is loaded into SAP and managed in Rapid Response

  • Acting as Supply Chain representative, as needed, in support of all Integrated Process Team meetings and initiatives (i.e. Tier meetings, Operational Readiness Management meetings (ORM), and upstream supplier and downstream customer meetings)

  • Being a dynamic leader in site Sales and Operations Planning (S&Op) meetings and the overall Sales and Operation process

  • Communicating supply delays to downstream colleagues and planning manager and working to resolve issues.  

  • Managing the Inventory of Questionable Value (IQV) process for product set.  This includes gathering information from site input departments and updating the IQV tool in SAP.  Additionally, the planner is responsible for generating required discard documentation (FA33) and routing for approval.

  • Reviewing the production schedule and Materials Requirement Planning outputs; making adjustments and interacts with supply network planning as required.  Manages SAP master data, updating safety stock and reorder points as needed.

  • Monitoring inventory levels to avoid excess inventory, inventory shortages and/or inventory expiry.

  • Supporting the annual profit planning and budgeting process.

  • Serving as primary scheduling liaison between Durham Production, Planning, Technical Operations and Quality.

  • Developing and updating Planning standard operating procedures as needed.

  • Acting as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others when priorities need to change.

  • Utilizing Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies to minimize waste, reduce costs and shorten cycle times

Required Education, Experience and Skills: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Quality, or comparable field AND at least five (5) years of experience working in Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Technology, and/or Operations OR

  • Master's Degree AND at least three (3) years of experience working in Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Technology, and/or Operations

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a GMP regulated environment
