Duke Health Development & Alumni Affairs is a hybrid workplace. All team members must live within the local area, have access to, and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service. The ability to work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools is a must. At the discretion of the manager, some positions will be required to work in our office located in Durham, NC for a specified number of days per week.
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
The Director of Development, Special Initiatives at Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs will report to the Assistant Vice President of Individual Giving. This role is pivotal in raising philanthropic support for various institutional priorities, special initiatives, and campaign themes within Duke Health, including Duke Human Vaccine Institute, AI Health, Climate & Health, Duke Clinical & Translational Science Institute and Duke Clinical Research Institute.
This individual will be a fundraiser, builder, strategist, and creative and collaborative problem solver. They will work to build and enhance collaborative relationships with faculty, leadership, and internal colleagues across assigned areas, as well as Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs, with the goal of advancing fundraising and Duke Health’s mission.
WORK PERFORMED
Fundraising 70%
- Develop and execute strategies to secure major gifts and philanthropic support for assigned institutional priorities, special initiatives, and campaign themes within Duke Health.
- Grow and manage a pool of prospects capable of making gifts of $100k or more, from identification to stewardship.
- Coordinate and ensure effective stewardship and recognition of donors’ philanthropy.
- Write or assist in drafting proposals and other materials as necessary; assist with publicity arrangements on important gifts, programs, accomplishments, or events.
- Manage communication of information, including briefings, development agendas, and reporting to assigned faculty leaders. Collaborate with leadership, faculty, and development professionals to develop persuasive fundraising proposals, case statements, and collateral materials.
- Monitor fundraising progress, develop contact reports, enter data into tracking databases, and operate within a standardized metric program.
Strategic Planning and Program Implementation 20%
- Forge strong partnerships throughout the organization, establish and maintain regular communication with faculty to build a successful development partnership.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with faculty, leadership, internal colleagues, key stakeholders, alumni, and community leaders to identify and engage potential donors.
- Work closely with faculty leadership in assigned areas to develop compelling strategies, priorities, and collaterals that align with Duke Health’s priorities and central missions of research, education, and care.
- Build annual and long-term goals for philanthropy in assigned areas.
