JOB SUMMARY

John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JHSH) is the flagship of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS). The Level 1 Trauma Center is one of the most respected in the nation. JHSH provides a broad range services and excellent healthcare to the residents of Chicago and suburban Cook County.

The primary focus of an Attending Physician VII - Hospitalist is hospital medicine; providing direct comprehensive care to inpatients of Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) hospitals. Responsibilities include supervising house staff and teaching medical students on general medicine wards and the Short-Stay Unit (SSU) at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JSH), rotating on attending-directed non-teaching services at Provident Hospital, consulting and collaborating with other attending's and specialists, developing and managing quality improvement processes, participating on CCHHS approved projects and/or committees, and perform others duties as assigned by the Division Chair. If assigned to the Medical Procedure Service, will also be required to perform bedside procedures including paracentesis, thoracentesis, central venous catheter insertions, lumbar puncture, and peripherally-inserted central catheter insertions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) or Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited college or university
  • Must be a licensed physician in good standing in the State of Illinois or be eligible to obtain before beginning employment
  • Must be certified with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) or have the ability to obtain certification prior to starting employment
  • Must have a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
  • Must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine or eligible for Board Certification prior to starting employment
  • Must have an academic appointment or be eligible for an academic appointment with JHSH academic affiliates
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three or more years of experience as a clinician educator in a hospital setting is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
  • Knowledge of hospitalist physician programs and services
  • Ability to treat acutely ill patients in an inpatient setting
  • Knowledge of inpatient quality improvements processes and the ability to implement them
  • Ability to instruct curriculum to include clinical epidemiology, history taking and physical diagnosis
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills necessary to oversee house staff and medical students
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient and employee population
  • Creative problem solving and critical thinking skills
