Job Description


Job Title: Quality Engineer I Date: 2/5/26

Reports To: General Manager


Summary

Research Tool & Die Works, powered by Fairbanks Morse Defense, is seeking a highly motivated Engineer with experience in quality engineer to join our team in Carson, CA. This individual will oversee the quality control and continuous improvement of precision-built hardware for the defense and industrial sectors. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing and maintaining the ISO9001/AS9100 Quality Management System, conducting inspections, supporting manufacturing process improvements, and collaborating across departments to ensure products meet customer and industry standards.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform and document all First Article, In-Process, and Final Inspections on components and assemblies per customer drawings and specifications.
• Maintain and improve product quality through audits, investigations, and training in compliance with ISO9001/AS9100 standards.
• Conduct quality assessments on all incoming materials, in-process production, and outgoing shipments.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications to ensure compliance.
• Measure parts using micrometers, calipers, comparators, plug and ring gauges, and other precision inspection tools.
• Identify and document non-conforming materials (NCRs); initiate and support corrective and preventive actions.
• Conduct and manage internal and external audits of the Quality Management System.
• Create and maintain inspection records, calibration logs, and quality reports for internal and external customers.
• Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for quality or process deviations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain) to improve manufacturing efficiency and resolve production issues.
• Assist in design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Utilize AutoCAD and Mastercam software to assist in the design and modification of prototypes, tools, fixtures, and dies.
• Ensure compliance with company Safety, Ethics, and Quality Policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Technical certificate or apprenticeship program.
• Degree/certificate in Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing, machining, or quality inspection within an ISO9001/AS9100 environment.
• Strong working knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100 Quality Management Systems and auditing practices.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Mastercam software preferred.
• Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and team collaboration skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, and basic data entry).
• Ability to work independently and within a team, managing time effectively to meet deadlines.

Therefore, you will need to qualify as a U.S. Person, which is defined as a U.S. Citizen, a U.S. Permanent Resident or a political asylee in compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Maintenance, including renewal, of licensing authorization is a condition of employment.
