JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Director of Ambulatory Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) is a strategic clinical leader responsible for advancing strategic integration, operational excellence, and professional development of APPs practicing in Eskenazi Health ambulatory settings including Eskenazi Health Center (EHC) and the Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center (SEMHC) sites.  This individual develops, implements and maintains comprehensive operational support and supervision structures for APPs within their assigned scope of responsibility. The Director works in close partnership with EHC and SEMHC leadership including CMOs, Chief Provider Executives, medical directors, nursing leadership, and operational teams to support high-performing care delivery teams that align with the organizational mission and vision by providing equitable, high-quality, and sustainable clinical care. Critical components of success in this role are collaboration with the EHC and SEMHC leadership teams to ensure consistency, equity, and professional development across the APP workforce and to ensure that APPs are practicing to the full extent of their license and within their scope of practice, as defined by the pertinent governing bodies.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

• Assure appropriate supervision, operational support, workforce planning, and performance management for APPs practicing in ambulatory settings.
• May directly or indirectly supervise APP team leads or other designated individuals.
• Serve as a key voice and advocate for APPs, helping to align APP roles with organizational goals around access, quality, and care coordination.
• Partner with operational and clinical leaders to define clinical scope of practice, resource needs, onboarding standards, orientation, and mentoring for APPs across ambulatory settings.
• Collaborate with Eskenazi Medical Group to align recruitment, credentialing, privileging, and compensation practices with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvement initiatives related to APP utilization, team-based care models, and care delivery efficiency.
• Ensure APPs receive training and support related to documentation, billing, coding, and regulatory compliance.
• Foster a culture of team-based care by working closely with physicians, nursing, and administrative leaders.
• Promote consistency in performance expectations, professional development, and evaluation across all ambulatory APP roles.
• Facilitate conflict resolution and support performance coaching for APPs and their supervisors.
• Serve as a liaison to external academic, community, and professional partners to elevate the visibility and leadership of APPs in the region.
