What You Will Do

Pratt and Whitney Hot Section Engineering (HSE) team is looking for a highly motivated and experienced engineer to join its team as a Principal Project Engineer and Technology Owner for Advanced Airfoil Castings.

This is a new role offering a rare opportunity to own and drive a strategic vision for future Airfoil Castings that will be a critical component to future program successes.  As the Principal Project Engineer and Airfoil Castings Technology Owner you will be a member of the Airfoil Casting Design and Manufacturing Team (ACDMT) working with technical experts and Program Chief Engineers to drive a vision for a 10-year roadmap that addresses airfoil casting needs across multiple jet engine programs. This vision takes into consideration all aspects of advanced airfoil castings from design through delivery.

The preferred candidate for this job will have the ability to gather input across multiple sources, think and operate strategically, and communicate a vision through Program Management and Executive levels.  This role covers all elements related to Airfoil Casting Technology, including technology identification, planning and scheduling, funding strategies and budgeting, hardware ordering and tracking, development task execution, validation planning and execution, and deployment to current and future programs. The Principal Project Engineer and Airfoil Castings Technology Owner will function within a broad team to execute a strategic plan and meet demanding goals. Qualified candidates must be technically proficient, communicate effectively, have demonstrated strong leadership skills, and be able to support multiple customers. Experience in airfoil design and casting processes is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Project Engineering support of the Advanced Casting Design and Manufacturing Team (ACDMT) and lead through successful design, technology, validation, and program reviews inclusive of risk identification and mitigation.
  • Accountable to Hot Section Engineering (HSE) leadership for driving a 10-year roadmap for advancing Airfoil castings.
  • Identification of critical technologies and development of validation strategies through incorporation into engines, including Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
  • Ensure Intellectual Property strategy developed and maintained throughout the life cycle of the vision.
  • Responsible for all elements of ACDMT project management, including project planning, schedule management, budget management, risk management, and execution to program requirements.  Includes communication of status and forecasts to management.
  • Participate in and lead Customer, Engineering, and Senior Management/Executive discussions and presentations on the future state of Airfoil castings.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree and 5 years’ experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, technical writing and engineering presentations to all levels of Engineering and Program management.
  • Familiarity with Turbine Airfoil design and casting process.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working across functions, organizations
