The Role

This role is part of the European Change Team, mostly based in Lisbon, consisting of business analysts and project managers who work closely with the various European countries and functions in order to deliver a portfolio of strategic, operational and regulatory change and achieve tangible business benefits.

The focus of this role is to oversee and coordinate our digital transformation across Europe, in close interaction with the Hiscox Group wide Customer Experience transformation. This role requires strong project management with different complexity levels combined with an ability to connect and work effectively with various stakeholders across Europe. The key projects of focus will be multi-year and multi-country in nature and range from intermediated and direct portals as well as partner integrations that lead to a seamless interaction between customers and Hiscox. The role is expected to work closely with the European Countries to perform market and business performance assessments, support the delivery of the different projects in Europe, own and operate European digital governance forums (local and group), including preparation of decision papers, clear recommendations, and escalation of trade-offs between cost, speed, scope, and local market needs.

The Digital Transformation Senior Manager is accountable for the end-to-end project, business outcomes, and adoption of Broker and Direct digital portals across Europe, including scope, timelines, budget, and benefits realisation. Given the scale and relevance of our digital transformation, this role requires substantial experience in leading digital projects, with a proven track record of delivery and execution. The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in managing hybrid business and technology initiatives, be highly focused on digital customer journeys, and demonstrate senior-level leadership.

Key responsibilities?

Main activities for this role should be:

  • Act as the linking pin between the European business and functions, IT and Group teams when relevant
  • Build strong productive relationships with the managers and staff within the European Business and across IT to facilitate effective business change based on a deep understanding of the business drivers and digital agenda of each party
  • Develop and execute project plans to identify and manage project requirements, resources and dependencies
  • Ensure that the direction of each project is achieving the agreed goals, on time and to budget; solving problems, mitigating risks
  • Design, implement and own metrics to track the progress and success of projects, including business outcome metrics to ensure delivery of measurables benefits post go-live
  • Manage the several project teams within the digital transformation programme and guide the workstream project managers to the outcomes agreed upon
  • Communicate frequently and comprehensively to ensure the alignment and support of the teams involved in Europe, IT and Group
  • Actively support local business owners in the European branches to drive change
  • Manage stakeholders to ensure buy-in and support, that they are kept updated of the progress of the projects status and that what is delivered meets their needs
  • Lead change initiatives by deploying effectively Hiscox project management methodologies and best practices and actively work in embedding such methodologies and frameworks when conducting projects
  • Challenge business analysis and make sure to keep the deliverables aligned with the IT and overall Hiscox Europe strategies

Technical must-haves

  • Masters’ degree ideally in Management / Economics / Engineering (or similar)
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) leading large-scale digital and technology-enabled transformations in complex, multi-country environments.
  • Strong understanding of digital customer experience (CX) principles, including end-to-end journey design, usability, conversion, and adoption metrics across Broker and Direct channels.
  • Strong technology literacy, with the ability to understand, and align on functional architecture, integrations, data flows, and platform constraints in collaboration with technology teams.
  • Experience in managing digital projects, ideally those based in low code technologies (e.g. OutSystems or similar) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Agile or hybrid delivery models at scale, including coordination across multiple teams, vendors, and geographies.
  • Solid understanding of security, data protection, and regulatory considerations in digital platforms, with the ability to work effectively with Risk, Compliance, and IT Security teams.
