Provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities assisting the care team as they assess, examine and treat patients. Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment available to ensure efficient unit operations.Job Description
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs.
- Monitors, promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment to facilitate safe and effective patient care, and reports any changes to RN.
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification.
- Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information.
- Directly assists physicians in the performance of medical/surgical procedures as directed.
- Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within established scope of practice.
- Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment available to ensure efficient unit operations.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):
- Healthcare Knowledge - Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry, ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations
- Medical Order Processing - Knowledge of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail when given medical orders, ability to process medical information with high levels of accuracy.
- Daily Living Assistance - Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis.
- Patient Safety - Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Terminology, previous nursing assistant or healthcare experience preferred
- CPR Certification
