About the role

Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department.  Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics. 

GENERAL DUTIES:
The Supervisor of Pharmacy Support will work with pharmacy administration to manage all medication and fluid purchasing for the department of pharmacy. This job will involve creation and ownership of an efficient means for managing a cost effective inventory.  Additionally, the supervisor of pharmacy support must keep abreast of shortages and mitigation strategies to ensure that patients continue to receive life sustaining medication while hospitalized.  Finally, this job will involve interaction with the medication safety officer/clinical coordinator and department leadership to ensure that medication purchases follow both formulary and medication safety policies.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:    
1.    Supports pharmacy operations in accordance with all applicable regulations and upholds pharmacy policy/procedures as appropriate
2.    Provides oversight and accountability for an accurate and efficient drug distribution process.
3.    Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, nurses, physicians and other care providers ensuring appropriate areas are aware of drug distribution and shortage mitigation strategies
4.    Supports department leadership with developing and maintaining a cost-effective medication inventory and helps assure responsibility for professional development.
5.    Complies with standards/norms for pharmacy purchasing, tenet formulary requirements, and evaluates opportunities that improve the procurement process.
6.    Demonstrates independent leadership and professionalism.
7.    Facilitates processes that maintain a dynamic medication formulary process, safe drug supply with equivalent drug distribution systems.
8.    Collaborates with department leadership to ensure a fiscally responsible operational strategy for medication procurement, storage and distribution.
9.    Consistently able to support processes necessary to assist in the delivery and purchase of safe, rational, and cost-effective drug therapy
10.    The procurement supervisor has the ability to receive, procure sufficient supplies, return, secure/quarantine, and re-stock department shelves where applicable (lifting may be required).  In his/her absence, oversee performance of secondary or back-up buyers to ensure safe and consistent practices. 
11.     This position must be actively be involved in ensuring medication outdates are dealt with in a timely cost effective manner. Individual is familiar with reverse distributor processes.
12.    Assists in maintaining compliance with state and federal laws, and other regulatory agencies.
13.    Acts as a direct liaison between employees and department leaders/hospital administrators, and communicates pertinent information to the pharmacy staff regarding procurement and shortage strategies.
14.    Assists in the management of financial resources, inventory control, pharmacy technician functions, and compliance with operational projections and/or constraints.
 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
1)    Minimum 3 years experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
2)    Verifiable abilities in inventory control, budgeting, problem solving skills, personnel management, and the ability to work with other departments.
3)    PTCB certification obtained within 2 years
4)    Experience with Automated Dispensing Cabinets.
5)    Experience with direct, wholesale and reverse distribution procurement and supply chain management.
6)    Experience with Recall and quarantine documentation and oversight.

 Preferred:
    
1)    Previous procurement/inventory management experience.
2)    College degree.
