Senior SQL Database Administrator
Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Solr instances, ensuring optimal configuration, system integrity, and sustained site stability
- Continuously monitor system health and database performance to uphold high standards of availability, scalability, sustainability, security, and compliance
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in real-time; communicate critical incidents promptly and manage recovery coordination
- Optimize and automate routine administrative tasks, manage incident tracking, and maintain thorough documentation of all changes using change management and proper procedures
- Collaborate closely with development teams to optimize queries, refine database schemas, and enhance data models
- Conduct thorough SQL code reviews with a focus on performance tuning, security, and scalability best practices
- Support analytics and reporting teams by managing and evolving existing data reporting systems
- Own critical system support through participation in an on-call rotation, ensuring rapid response and 24/7 operational reliability
Required Skills
- 5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role
- Extensive experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization, including execution plan analysis and indexing strategies
- Proficient in backup, restore, and recovery models, ensuring reliable data protection
- Strong knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, particularly SQL Server Always On
- Expert in T-SQL DDL/DML with proficiency in scripting and SSIS
- Familiar with cloud-based database management on AWS, including EC2, RDS, and DynamoDB, with additional exposure to PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Solr
- Understanding of Change Data Capture
- Solid grasp of Windows Server administration, including Active Directory integration
- In-depth understanding of SQL Server internals, including isolation levels, transaction and batch processing, lock management, and error handling
- Willingness to adopt a database-agnostic approach and learn and embrace emerging technologies
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Windows PowerShell or Python for scripting and automation
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team, mentor other data professionals, and contribute to shared knowledge and development
