About the role

Join us at USfalcon as a Software Instrumentation Engineer, Junior in and play a pivotal role in supporting the Department of Defense’s aviation and test mission. Your expertise will contribute to the configuration and support of specialized test equipment, as well as the development of software solutions that ensure mission-critical data acquisition and analysis during flight and ground operations.

Essential Duties

Test Equipment Configuration & Support

  • Configure specialized ground and flight test equipment for data acquisition, display, reduction, analysis, and archiving, supporting both local and remote test sites, including in-flight instrumentation support.
  • Implement data acquisition and monitoring controls for various data streams such as Pulse-Code Modulation, Aircraft Data Bus, Ethernet, IRIG-106 standard hardware, and other commercial and developmental data streams.

Software Development & Debugging

  • Review and enhance custom-developed software routines using languages like MATLAB, LabView, C#, C++, and Visual Basic for controlling test equipment, monitoring real-time data, and handling telemetry and post-flight data analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software errors, modifying or creating new routines to resolve issues and enhance system functionality.
  • Develop and evolve software routines in response to evolving requirements from the Government, ensuring compliance with technical specifications.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Document software test results and deliver all source code to the Government.
  • Prepare Software Version Descriptions for all evolved and newly developed routines and create comprehensive Software User’s Manuals.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in customer environment tests to gain proficiency in relevant technologies.
  • Provide ongoing support for test efforts and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of Department of Defense (DoD) related Aviation experience (US Army Aviation experience preferred).
  • Experience with instrumentation components such as sensors, accelerometers, strain gauges, and related technologies.
  • Proficient in programming languages including MATLAB, LabView, C#, C++, and Visual Basic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with pulse-code modulation, Aircraft Data Bus, Ethernet, and IRIG-106 standard hardware.
  • Experience working with in-flight and ground data acquisition systems.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.

Required Clearance

  • Active Secret clearance required.

Travel

  • Approximately 10%.
