Material Bank is seeking a Material Data Analyst to lead the definition, organization, and optimization of product details and attributes related to sustainable materials in the world’s foremost design and architectural catalog. This role is pivotal in shaping how sustainability-related product attributes are defined, displayed, and collected, supporting a modern software system designed to revolutionize how designers, specifiers, and industry professionals discover, specify, and source sustainable materials.
As the Material Data Analyst you will collaborate closely with internal teams and industry partners to ensure the platform delivers the most comprehensive, accurate, and relevant sustainability data to meet the evolving needs of the design and construction community. Your expertise will guide the integration of sustainability-focused product metadata into a seamless, user-centric experience while ensuring compatibility with industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
What you’ll do:
Define Product and Sustainability Attribute Strategies
- Establish the framework for how sustainability attributes are structured, presented, and prioritized on the platform.
- Strategize and implement sustainability-related classifications within existing categories and taxonomies.
- Define critical sustainability attributes for materials, ensuring alignment with environmental certifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Develop clear guidelines for sustainability-related attribute definitions, performance metrics, and data collection methods.
- Research and analyze competitor and similar platforms to understand sustainability data strategies.
Manage Sustainability Data and Certifications
- Oversee the organization and enrichment of product data to ensure it includes comprehensive sustainability details relevant to material selection and project requirements.
- Specify how sustainability data is collected, normalized, and validated, integrating both brand-provided and third-party data (e.g., LEED, WELL, Cradle to Cradle, Declare, FSC, and other environmental certifications).
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of sustainability data to support industry professionals in making informed material decisions.
Shape User Experience
- Collaborate with the product and design teams to optimize how sustainability attributes are displayed, enhancing searchability and usability for AECO (Architects, Engineers, Contractors, and Operators).
- Lead initiatives to improve filtering, navigation, and presentation of sustainability attributes, making it easier for users to discover environmentally responsible materials.
Drive Collaboration
- Work with engineering, content, and brand teams to ensure the accurate implementation of sustainability data strategies in the software system.
- Liaise with external brand partners to align sustainability data standards and attribute definitions.
- Partner with sustainability experts and regulatory bodies to maintain compliance with industry trends and best practices.
Lead Industry Innovation
- Research emerging trends in sustainable materials, circular economy principles, and evolving performance standards to refine and expand sustainability-related product metadata.
- Support the creation of a next-generation sustainable materials catalog that anticipates the evolving needs of the A&D community and regulatory landscapes.
What you'll bring:
Experience and Knowledge
- 2+ years of experience in product data management, sustainability, materials science, or a related role, preferably in architecture, design, construction, or e-commerce.
- Experience in a sustainability-focused role within the A&D or construction industry is a significant advantage.
- Expertise in defining and managing sustainability attributes, including certifications, compliance standards, environmental impact metrics, and material health considerations.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in data management tools and the ability to work with large datasets related to sustainability.
