Laboratory Technician - Petroleum Engineering Department

This position supports the research laboratories of the Petroleum Engineering Department. The candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of faculty, engineers, and scientists, conducting novel research and supporting on-going research programs.

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance and calibration to research laboratory equipment, such as, core analysis apparatuses, fluid PVT properties equipment, and interfacial and rheology measurement equipment.
• Take an active role in the development of new experimental apparatuses and testing protocols by building, adapting, and modifying research equipment for new research projects in the area of core analysis, enhanced oil recovery, geomechanics, and carbon sequestration.
• Design data acquisition systems with data integration and signal conditioning to support the reporting of experimental results.
• Conduct diverse high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) experiments and measurements using research laboratory equipment, such as, core analysis, core flooding, fluid properties, and interfacial property measurements.
• Record experimental results and prepare reports.
• Develop the lab safety protocol and other EHS duties.
• Training and support of undergraduate and graduate students in conducting HPHT experiments.
• The candidate may provide input during the preparation of proposals in terms of required timeline for experimental work and associated cost of lab work, and act as the project manager of the experimental work.
• Stay current on technical and scientific advances in their field.

Minimum qualifications

• 5 years of experience of HPHT laboratory work with experimental design and apparatus development.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

Annual Rate and Benefits 

$30.00 per hour
