The Position
We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.
Roche is the world’s #1 provider of companion diagnostics, offering unrivaled experience in developing and commercializing predictive tests that enable personalized treatment strategies for patients.
The Senior Fluidics Engineer (Engineer) will provide engineering technical direction within R&D for the implementation of electrowetting and microfluidics technology in IVD consumables and instrumentation. The engineer will define the directions for designing electrowetting and fluidics experiments based on requirements for the production of consumable PCBs for electrowetting technology and will team up with detection, engineering and assay development teams to understand company requirements and needs and translate them to innovative electrowetting and fluidics technologies. The engineer will lead critical work in electrowetting failure analysis, inspections and test method development when needed. This individual will develop and maintain a strong infrastructure for Electrowetting and Fluidics research and development; lead the innovation in novel technologies for microfluidics with commercial potential for next generation of IVD products and provide engineering and troubleshooting support to assay integration and development teams.
You will define requirements for electrowetting systems with the ability to use various hydrophobic layers on many varieties of substrates
You will work with production teams to transfer verified designs within R&D into full production; you will collaborate with Technical Support teams and assist production and contract manufacturers as new problems arise.
You may interact with suppliers and contract manufacturers from time to time to ensure parts and assemblies are produced against material specifications reliably.
You will act as the thought leader in fluidics related to product design, analysis and development of components and assemblies, including assembly, part drawings and manufacturing transfer.
You will perform and document feasibility, design, verification, validation, and risk analysis activities under design controls within the new product development process potentially working alongside outsourced partners.
Youl will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of assigned products, including interrelationships with systems developed by other contributing teams.
Who You Are:
(Required)
You have a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in electrowetting applications within a medical device company; you are highly skilled at designing, developing, and sustaining medical or in-vitro diagnostics consumables using electrowetting and other fluidics technologies.
You have demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with microfluidics and Electrowetting; you are proficient with root cause analysis, data analysis, and tolerance analysis techniques
You have a demonstrate level of expertise with the layout of complex electrowetting on PCB; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, microfluidics, and materials; including an advanced level of proficiency in designing experiments for lab-on-a-chip devices with microelectronics
You have demonstrated experience in fluidics devices designs, rapid prototyping, prototype molding, and multi-cavity production molds; experience with assembly techniques associated with electrowetting assemblies
You have a demonstrated level of experience with MCAD (Solidworks preferred) and ECAD (Altium preferred)
Preferred:
You have experience in data acquisition and instrument control programming platforms, such as Lab VIEW or Matlab, is a plus
You have experience with modeling tools is a strong plus (e.g. FEA, CFD).
