Senior Electrical Engineer | Germantown, MD

IMEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in Germantown, MD, to join a highly specialized MEP team with deep expertise in complex healthcare, research, laboratory, federal, and secure facility work. This is an opportunity to do work that matters — supporting mission-critical environments tied to national security, scientific discovery, healthcare, and public service.

Principal Responsibilities

• Lead the analysis and design of electrical systems, including detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
• Perform site assessments and prepare detailed analysis and technical reports
• Collaborate with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information clearly
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and responsive service
• Provide in-process reviews of electrical designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
• Apply IMEG quality control processes to help ensure designs meet IMEG standards, industry standards, and client requirements
• Train, mentor, and motivate staff
• Provide technical assistance in resolving field issues with limited support from senior staff
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and electrical engineering best practices, and contribute to research and innovation efforts within IMEG
• Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and help identify and mitigate potential risks associated with electrical systems
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that support project goals
• Participate in project interviews and presentations

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 7 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

• Due to the nature of this work, applicants must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain the required U.S. government security clearance

• Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems
• Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
• Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
• Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
• Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
• Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
• Strong training and mentoring skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

Electrical Team Highlights

  • Do work that matters — supporting mission-critical federal, healthcare, research, laboratory, and secure facility projects where electrical reliability, redundancy, and safety directly support the client’s mission.
  • Work on technically challenging projects for major clients and agencies, including NIH, NIST, NAVFAC, USACE, University of Maryland, Morgan State University, and private-sector research clients.
  • Lead electrical design for building systems including medium- and low-voltage distribution, standby and emergency power, generators, UPS systems, lighting, fire alarm, mass notification, nurse call, and specialized grounding.
  • Contribute to advanced electrical analysis and studies, including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, motor starting, single-point-of-failure analysis, facility assessments, and site survey
