Job Summary:

Applies scientific knowledge / therapy to practical clinical problems of respiratory care. As a team member in delivery of respiratory services, and under medical direction, performs a wide range of procedures related to the care of patients with general and specialized respiratory-related needs of various age groups, including those in the pediatric areas.

Essential Functions:

• Performs evaluation to determine respiratory care needs, and makes appropriate recommendations and changes in accordance with policy and protocol guidelines.
• Assesses effectiveness of treatment and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.
• Performs point of care testing as required.
• Performs advanced evaluation, management and therapeutic procedures (interventions) for patients requiring respiratory assistance.
• Assesses effectiveness of intervention and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.
• Completes and documents required education and competencies within designated timeframe.
• Maintains competency in areas of accountability.
• Accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation and billing.
• Facilitates a smooth transition for the patient to appropriate referral services / the next point of service / home and provides education to patients and families as it relates to respiratory issues.
• Instructs and trains other respiratory care staff, nursing and other medical personnel and students regarding patient needs and respiratory care services.

Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy – Required
• Bachelor's Degree Respiratory Therapy – Preferred
• 2 years of relevant experience pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory care, sleep medicine or equivalent clinical education - Required
• Registered Respiratory Therapist through NBRC – Required upon hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through AHA or ARC required within 90 days
• Respiratory Therapist license through State of Michigan – Required upon hire
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required within 90 days for those within SHMG and Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab departments
• RT Students, CRTs, and RRTs may apply
• Ideal candidate will be a Registered Respiratory Therapist possessing Peds experience or willing to be trained in Pediatrics on a Full-Time basis for a few weeks
• We also have a need for an RT who is able to work a 12-Hr. Shift on Sundays, if interested
• This is an exciting position that may lead to Transport Training, flying to transport high-acuity Peds RT Patients to Helen DeVos Children's
