The Akron Board of Education announces openings for Safety Team Members, Job Code 318, Time Schedule 522.  This position is responsible for transporting students.  Salary: $18.79 - $25.98.  This is a School Employees Retirement System position.   FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.;
  • Must satisfactorily complete Bureau of Criminal Investigation background check.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License.
  • Must have less than 6 points on license.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • An employee in this position exercises a high level of judgment and tact in working with staff, students and visitors in APS buildings or other assigned areas;
  • May also be assigned to ride school buses to support student behavior and safety of students;
  • Safely transport families, students, or staff to designated locations in support of district programs and services;
  • Monitor student behavior to support a positive educational opportunity for each child;
  • Interact with students while monitoring the halls during class changes, lunch and dismissal;
  • Provide mobile safety support at off-site events and locations where Akron Public Schools (APS) students are present (e.g., athletic events, field trips, community gatherings);
  • Monitors school parking lots, school grounds and all common areas in a school building or school bus to provide a safe, orderly, and affirming school environment;
  • Reports to administrators when students violate the Code of Student Behavior or specific building rules;
  • Assists in locker searches and building searches when warranted;
  • Assists in monitoring visitors to the building to provide access information and sign in procedures;
  • Assists in monitoring student activities;
  • Conduct regular patrols and respond to incidents across multiple school sites and district facilities using a district-issued vehicle;

  • Maintain accurate travel logs and follow all district protocols related to vehicle use and student transport
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of APS staff, students, families, and community partners to promote a safe and welcoming environment
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills when interacting with stakeholders in high-pressure or sensitive situations
  • Exhibit sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when responding to safety-related concerns across various school and community settings
  • Remain flexible and responsive to rapidly changing assignments and priorities, including last-minute driving requests or safety deployments
  • Ensure compliance with all district safety policies, transportation regulations, and student confidentiality requirement
  • ?Assists in monitoring student, staff and visitor activities before and after school and during class changes;
  • Assists Safety and Security and building administration with specific or anticipated security problems, which may include students, parents, visitors, and/or intruders;
