As the Director, U.S. Business Development & Licensing (BD&L), you will be instrumental in identifying and evaluating strategic business opportunities, acquisition targets and licensing opportunities to support Sandoz’s growth within the U.S. pharmaceutical Rx and Gx spaces. You will assess market conditions and competitive strategies to advance Sandoz’s competitiveness and support business growth with a balanced approach of topline growth (near– to –midterm) while improving profitability. You will proactively identify latest trends and secure novel product opportunities and partnerships in U.S. Rx/Gx pharmaceuticals.
Job Description
Your additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support negotiations with partners and lead the internal cross- functional deal assessment teams.
- Identify new licensing opportunities and respective partners, negotiate term sheets, and prepare business cases to present to senior management.
- Manage the assigned opportunity evaluation and approval process by leading cross functional teams with Portfolio, Technical Dev., Finance, IP/Legal, Regulatory, Marketing etc.
- Develop business cases / terms and seek approval for new business development opportunities with minimal supervision.
- Negotiate contracts and amendments and support US legal team in concluding and managing contracts to execution.
- Partner with Project Management to coordinate Due Diligence and contract input from other functional areas e.g., Quality, SCM, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, Sales, etc.
- Interface with senior managers across various functions (commercial, R&D, and regulatory) to ensure that BD&L is meeting internal and external needs and develop effective strategies.
- Effectively monitor and report on assigned project status, program milestones and escalation of any project needs.
- Ensure timely closure of CARs including assessment of the projects.
- Manage SANITY system and ensure all assigned deal opportunities are reported accurately and updated (milestones and deal governance, etc.) as deal process unfolds and closed.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision as required to close BD&L deals
Minimum requirements:
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A minimum of 8-10 years of BD&L and business experience. A minimum of 5 years should be focused on the US Pharmaceutical market (i.e., Regulatory, business, operations, or commercial expertise).
- Experience in U.S. Rx/Generic Business Development is highly preferred. International/Ex-US or Global experience in Rx/Gx is considered a plus.
- Experience building financial business cases, financial analysis and product P&L models to demonstrate the potential value of new technologies and products.
- A deep understanding of pharmaceutical forecasting and competitive dynamics in the pharmaceutical and Gx industry.
- Strong knowledge of legal matters related to licensing contracts.
- The ability to influence others to achieve results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience should encompass more than one functional area (e.g., product development, regulatory affairs, product management, marketing, business development, finance, etc.).
Education:
- Requires the minimum of an undergraduate degree in life sciences or business. Advanced degree such as MBA, PharmD or equivalent is preferred
