About the role

This is what you will do:

The Director of U.S. Access Strategy is responsible for developing a holistic U.S.  market access strategy across Alexion’s portfolio, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives and evolving market dynamics. This role involves establishing access goals and developing strategies to ensure appropriate access for Alexion pipeline and inline products. Additional responsibilities include coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders to integrate access considerations into broader commercial brand plans and developing access strategies for launch products in collaboration with global teams. This role is based in Alexion’s Boston headquarters and reports to the Executive Director, US Access Strategy & Marketing.

You will be responsible for:

  • Establishing access goals by brand for each product within Alexion's portfolio.
  • Developing strategies to achieve access goals, including messaging, positioning, and leveraging Medical, HEOR & evidence assessments, advocacy groups, and a product’s clinical value proposition to secure competitive access
  • Collaborating with Account Management team to execute on access strategies
  • Monitoring competitive landscape and markets to adjust access strategies as needed
  • Adopting a holistic approach to access strategy by brand, by accounting for implications across the Alexion portfolio, and collaborating with global, advocacy, policy, medical/HEOR, and account teams to understand the broader access landscape
  • Sharing access related insights to be integrated into broader commercial plans
  • Working with global and cross-functional teams to develop access strategy for launch brands and provide US market access insight into brand and launch strategies
  • Collaborating with Alexion patient advocacy teams  on access education initiatives with advocacy groups and other such pull-through initiatives
  • Coordinate with HEOR/Medical teams to ensure alignment between evidence generation and  market access
  • Staying up to date on market and legislative trends to update strategies as needed
  • Owning the relationship with global teams to keep the market access team informed of any business development (BD) and acquisition deals under consideration and launch strategies for upcoming pipeline assets more than 24 months pre-launch
  • Providing a robust U.S. Market Access perspective to global and access strategy stakeholders to assess market access implications for BD and acquisition products and to support the development of market access strategies for pipeline assets
  • Performing preliminary landscape assessments, and horizon scanning for competitor launches
  • Working with global and the Senior Director of Strategic Pricing Management to conduct early-stage primary and secondary pricing research using appropriate methodologies (i.e., willingness to pay)
  • Ensuring the timely consultation of market access stakeholders throughout the BD and acquisition process
  • Leveraging insights from previous launches and sharing relevant learnings with access strategy and pipeline strategy stakeholders as needed
  • Working with global teams and Director of Access Strategy to develop risk-mitigation strategies for launch products
  • Educating, consulting, and informing the broader US Market Access team about upcoming launches and BD opportunities as needed
  • Collaborating with contract strategy stakeholders to consider contracting opportunities and GTN expectations for pipeline and BD products

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study
  • 10+ years’ experience in U.S. managed care
  • 4+ years’ experience in a pharmaceutical strategy role
  • Knowledge of the business models, influence/impact, and decision drivers of U.S. commercial and government payers as well as channel customers (e.g. specialty pharmacy and distribution, home infusion, etc.)
  • Understanding of access utilized by commercial and government payers under the medical and pharmacy benefits
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, work independently as well as with a team, possess strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team of colleagues without a direct reporting relationship
  • Ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analyses of complex strategic initiatives
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex business challenges and data-driven recommendations to senior leaders
  • Up to 20% travel as required.
