When you join PPGNY as a Registered Charge Nurse, you will obtain and assess patient's medical history and counsel on specific surgical procedures and assist our physicians during surgical procedures. Guide and directs activities of Licensed Practical Nursing and Support Staff. The charge nurse distributes the work of the unit in a manner that makes the best use of available resources, both personnel and material, and which take into account the knowledge, skills, and abilities of those persons who will be integral to the patient care process. The charge nurse provides ongoing coordination of work and resources as necessary to meet changing requirements in the work environment Provides nursing care to patients during and after surgical procedures and assumes charge responsibility under the direction of the Director, Clinical/Surgical Services

Direct Clinical Care (100%)
- Reviews patient’s medical and social history prior to procedure or exam to ensure complete medical record and awareness of any relevant medical, emotional, psychological or social issues. Prepares chart after review of history.
- Consults with Abortion or Anesthesia provider for any patient issues as set forth in the SAB Protocol.
- Monitors patient flow in the surgical area, communicates and trouble shoots problems with Director of Clinical/Surgical Services.
- Maintains documentation of abortion logs.
- Responsible for acquisition, distribution and documentation of controlled substances. Maintains narcotic and medication protocol, monitors emergency cart equipment to ensure adequate supplies and check expiration dates.
- Review of patient management – Local, Mid Tri, Ectopic, EPL, inadequate tissue and inconclusive sono.
- Assists and/or prepares patient for exam/procedure or treatment.
- Assists clinician in transfer of patient to recovery room after completion of surgical procedure.
- Performs any duties related to preparing instruments, equipment and/or medication needed for exam treatment/procedure.
- Provides post procedure patient education including detailed information regarding procedures, possible aftereffects, and post procedure self-care.
- Assists with emergency care and transports patients.
- Evaluates patient's post-procedure/exam/treatment status, administering medication as prescribed, and identifies need for clinician intervention.
- Assists in the training and supervision of licensed and non-professional staff.
- Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in meeting established goals for productivity.
- Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in achieving established revenue cycle goals.
- Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in health care center efforts to comply with all organizational and quality assurance guidelines, and all applicable government regulations.
- Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in overall health center efforts to achieve all goals set to improve customer relations, increase customer satisfaction and promote repeat customer visits.
- Understands and commits to modeling excellent customer service in all aspects of health care delivery. Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in overall health center efforts to achieve goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in the clinic/on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.

- Understands and commits to customer-oriented approach to health care delivery.
- Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.
- Works effectively with volunteers, trainees and temp agency personnel.
- Performs other educational and experience related duties as required.
