Research Technologist - Biomedical Engineering (Limited Tenure)

Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, grant commitments, i.e. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts. Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.

Additional Responsibilities:

The research group of Dr. Suman Bose has openings for a research technologist position effective immediately. The candidate will work on highly interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of molecular biology, immune engineering, and biomaterials to engineer cell-based products to treat chronic diseases. The role will involve the following:

• Maintains mammalian cell lines and perform biomolecular assays (ELISA, qPCR, western blots, and others)
• Performs animal work that involves surgery, regular bleeds, blood glucose measurements, organ harvesting, and imaging.
• Develop new cell lines using cloning and genome editing 
• Manage lab-wide ordering, inventory of common lab supplies, and equipment maintenance.
• Organizes data and performs basic statistical data analysis. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to the writing of manuscripts.
• Works under supervision but may perform some assignments independently as approved by Principal Investigator. 

This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates interested in gaining 1-2 years of intense research experience in an interdisciplinary area, combining engineering with translational research and earning their position in journal publications.

Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, other relevant science, or an associates degree with 6 years of relevant laboratory experience. Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Biological, Chemical, or Mechanical), Biology, Chemistry, or any closely related field and previous wet lab experience. Staff will be trained to use the relevant techniques. Previous experience with some of the following techniques would be advantageous: Animal work (surgery, bleeding, necropsy), mammalian cell culture, biomolecular assays (ELISA, Western Blot, RNA extraction, qPCR, confocal microscopy), and molecular cloning.
