Shift/Schedule: Part Time (32 hrs/wk)
GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Same Day Surgery Nurse Manager. The Perioperative Liaison's primary job function is to provide service to patients and families waiting in the Same Day Surgery lobby by providing information regarding surgery, patient progress, and hospital information as appropriate per HIPAA. The perioperative liaison will work with the staff in SDS, Surgery, and PACU to maintain a smooth flow of patients through the perioperative area.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Ability to read and speak English required.
• Medical terminology preferred.
Licensure:
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• Previous experience preferred. Experience in a related field with specialized knowledge i.e., conflict resolution, interpersonal communications, medical terminology, the working knowledge of a hospital, especially surgical services preferred. Basic computer knowledge.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

1. Meets and greets patients and visitors as they arrive in the Same Day Surgery.
2. Enters patients into the computer when they arrive in the SDS lobby.
3. Acts as a liaison for patients and their families with hospital staff and physicians.
4. Communicates with Surgery and PACU concerning the progress of patient's surgery, or any reason for delays and provides this information to patients and family members.
5. Works to prevent complaints/problems, or to resolve complaints/problems, if they occur.
6. Provides directions and/or guidelines concerning the hospital when asked and handles telephone requests for information regarding patient progress.
7. Maintains visitor control in the lobby.
8. Participates in hospital or departmental committee, projects, and performance improvement; abides by hospital confidentiality policy.
9. Obtains consent for treatment upon patient arrival.
10. Provides patient instructions about what to expect during their perioperative stay.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
